Dr Shane Lyons BVSc (Hons) MBA

Practice Owner (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Shane Lyons joined the practice in 1991 and became a partner in 1993.  Shane along with Ian run the large animal operations.  Shane is a keen fisherman and spends his weekends on the table tennis circuit.  Shane has a keen interest in milk quality and is often running Cups on Cups off courses for budding dairy farmers to improve their milking technique and mastitis prevention.  He is an accomplished equine and cattle veterianrian doing much of our ultrasound cattle and mare pregnancy testing.  Shane has also completed further study in opthamology and regularly gets called in to look at horses, dogs and cats eyes in more complicated cases.

Dr Ian Henderson BVSc

Practice Owner (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Ian Henderson started the practice with his wife Vonnie in 1986.  Being a true Birregurra local you will commonly find Ian at the Birregurra golf course tending the greens and fairways.  Ian has a keen interest in teaching and has helped countless students and young vets devlop their skills with patience and practical guidance, in 2019 Ian won the Australian Cattle Veterinarians practitioner of the year award for recognition in service to the industry and clients over his long career.  Ians wealth of knowledge and experience, especially with catle and horses, is invaluable amoungst our team.

Dr Tom Loughnan BVBiol/BVSc MANZCVS (Dairy Cattle Medicine)

Practice Owner (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Tom Loughnan joined our staff in 2016 after a number of years working through South West Vic, Gippsland and overseas.  Tom is a mixed practice vet with a strong interest in dairy medicine and reproduction.  He joined the partnership in 2019 and has a keen interest in developing protocols and preventative health care to offer our clients greater farm productivity.  Tom has attained his Memberships to the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Surgeons in Dairy Cattle Medicine and is also completing further study through the University of Melbourne to improve his knowledge in dairy medicine.  He is completing a research project with the help of many of our regular clients.

Dr Evelyn Lyons BVSc (Hons) MANZCVS (Pharmacology)

Senior Clinic Veterinarian (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Evelyn Lyons joined the practice in 1992.  Evelyn oversees the small animal department and when she is not saving your pets she is saving lives down at Apollo Bay SLSC.  Evelyn has completed many knee surgeries and does a number of complicated soft tissue, opthalmic and orthopaedic proceedures.  She also commonly assists our regular in house referral surgeon on his frequent rounds.  Evelyn has completed further study in accupuncture and regularly works with patients to improve mobility and comfort through accupuncture sessions.

Dr Penny Morrison BVSc


Dr Penny Morrison has been working at Colac Vets since 2015, joining us from JCU in Townsville.  Penny works both on farm and in the clinic being a versatile team member,  She is from Derinallum and happy to be back in the local area with family close by.  Penny is often out exploring the coastline or playing netball for Birre through winter weekends.

Dr Ellie Hodge DVM

Veterinarian (DVM)

Ellie Joined us in 2022 and has hit the ground running.  Hailing from a dairy farm near Cohuna she's well accustomed to the country lifestyle.  Ellie has been out on the netball court in Birregurra and is quickly becoming part of the furniture in the clinic and around the district.  We are thrilled to have her on board as an important member of our team. 

Rhonda Mitchell

Front Office Manager

Rhonda is an invaluable member of our staff organising our Vets' appointments and fitting everything into the day.  She's a multi-tasking guru and takes great care of all of our staff and customers.  When Rhonda is not at work she spends time visiting family, tending the veggies or trecking around the world.

Rhonda Colbourne

Veterinary Nurse

Rhonda has been a dedicated member of our team since 1993 veterinary nursing and helping on reception at times.  Rhonda keeps our shelves stocked and patients well tended to, you can be sure that her friendly face will greet you and your pet upon any visit.  With a passion for red frogs and coffee she continues to be a reliable and highly valued staff member.

Jenni Mercuri

Veterinary Nurse

Jenni has worked in our team at Colac Vets between family comitments for years.  She is an accomplished vet nurse and also helps behind the scenes to keep the administration running smoothly. Jenni, with her daughter, is a keen Ballet dancer and has mastered the art of dog training, get in touch if you need some tips with your pet.

Casey White

Veterinary Nurse (Veterinary Nurse)

Casey joined us late in 2019 and has been learning the ropes of reception and veterinary nursing.  She's recently completed her certificate 4 in Vet Nursing and is progressing with leaps and bounds.  Casey hails from Camperdown where you may find her running the rail trails or walking her Cavalier Trixie.

Debbie Larkins


Deb joined us in 2020 down in our Winchelsea branch and has been a fantastic addition to the furniture.  Being a local Deb knows most of our Winch clients and patients from her walks in town with her two West Highland Terriers.  Her presence has enabled us to open for longer hours in Winchelsea making consultation bookings and prescription pickups a much smoother operation.

Vonnie Henderson

Practice Owner

Vonnie and Ian started the practice in 1986, Vonnie still holds the after hours phones regularly to make sure your calls are always answered and to organises the on-call vet.

Jewel Sibley

Veterinary Nurse

Jewel joined us in 2019 as an after school job and has slotted into the team permanently as we couldn't let her go. Currently studying through Tafe whilst full time on the job she is mastering the art of vet nursing with her energetic and hard-working attitude.  Jewel enjoys horse riding and has a pet dog Bert who keeps her active on weekends, she will take look after your pets and queries with care and has quickly become an integral team member.

Annie Hazel

Veterinary Nurse (Veterinary Nurse)

Annie joined us in 2021 and has quickly become a valuable team member looking after your pets as a vet nurse and also queries as she sporadically helps out on reception.  Annie is a problem solver and an animal lover and will help you find the best care for our pet or livestock.  She is a wealth of information with horses, spelling and breeding a few racehorses on her property.  Annie also has a Daschund called Kramer, we think the name is very fitting.
